I am currently the education/features reporter at The Sanford Herald, a daily newspaper in Sanford, N.C. I cover the education beat, a wide range of features and occasionally hard news such as shootings and car accidents. I also shoot and edit video to supplement stories online. I began working at the Herald immediately following my graduation from Elon University, where I graduated summa cum laude with a B.A. in journalism and a minor in theatre arts. I spent all four years at Elon working at the student newspaper, The Pendulum. I started out as a reporter before moving up to arts and entertainment editor and managing editor.
I also had two internships at the News & Record, the daily newspaper in my hometown of Greensboro, N.C. The summer before junior year I interned at Go Triad, the paper’s weekly arts publication. I have continued writing for Go Triad as a freelancer since my internship ended. I also interned with the Life section during spring semester senior year.
I enjoy news and feature reporting, but my primary interest is in arts and entertainment writing. In my spare time, I write reviews and short news pieces for the film Web site ItsJustMovies.com. At The Pendulum, I co-hosted a film podcast called Reel Talk with the A-Team that ran from April 2009 to May 2010. In addition to writing and editing for spelling, grammar and AP style, I also have experience with Photoshop, InDesign, Flash, Final Cut Pro, Audacity and audio and video recording devices.
